Field Excursion Programme

Experience nature firsthand. Learn from the forest. Become part of the change

We are excited to announce that WGNF has launched a new programme called “Field Excursion.” At WGNF, we believe that firsthand experiences—seeing, observing, and documenting diverse forest ecosystems, biodiversity, and landscapes—can profoundly shape how individuals connect with nature. Such experiences help foster a deeper sense of respect, responsibility, and care for our natural world and wildlife.

Field Excursion is an open opportunity for anyone who is eager to learn about nature, understand the richness of our ecosystems, and bring conversations about the environment into everyday life. Through this programme, we invite individuals to become part of a community that values nature and contributes to positive change—helping make our Earth a healthier and happier place.

Field Excursion 1: The Draco - Flying Lizards of the Western Ghats
Step into the forests of the Western Ghats and witness one of nature’s most fascinating reptiles — the flying lizard — in its natural habitat.
This field excursion offers a unique opportunity to explore forest ecosystems, observe wildlife behaviour, and deepen your connection with nature through firsthand experience.

Overview
This two-day field excursion takes place in the mosaic landscapes along the western slopes of the Western Ghats, in the Agumbe and Kundapura region of Karnataka—an area renowned for its exceptional biodiversity and tropical forest ecosystems. Participants will have the opportunity to observe flying lizards in their natural habitat, study their behaviour, and document their activities. The programme also provides time for nature and wildlife photography, allowing participants to capture these remarkable reptiles in their natural habitat.

Flying lizards are rare and endemic to this region, making this excursion a special opportunity for anyone interested in wildlife, ecology, and nature observation and learning.
